Documents for transport from abroad

The exact set depends on the country of departure and the circumstances. Below are typical documents. Call us — we will check the details for your case.

  • Death certificate An official document issued by the competent authorities of the country where the death occurred.
  • Medical certificates Confirmation of the cause of death and that transport is allowed under health rules.
  • Export / transit permit A permit from the competent authorities of the departure country (and transit, if needed) for cross-border transport.
  • Document from the Consulate of Ukraine Approval from the Embassy or Consulate of Ukraine in the departure country — as the route requires.
  • Translations and certification Notarized translations; an apostille or other certification when needed.
  • Family and burial-place documents Passport details of the organizer, power of attorney, and confirmation of a burial place in Ukraine — as the case requires.

What makes up the repatriation cost

The estimate usually includes these required items. Exact amounts are given after a consultation.

  • Morgue storage: in many European countries it is billed per day — so faster paperwork often reduces this line.
  • Body preparation: sanitary care and dressing; embalming or restoration when needed.
  • Casket with zinc liner: an international route needs a sealed casket.
  • Document arrangement: death certificate, medical papers, permits, consular support, and notarized translations — per the rules of the countries on the route.
  • Transport by specialized hearse along the agreed road route.
  • Transport within Ukraine: delivery from the border to the burial city.
  • Optional: farewell afterward in Ukraine, ritual items, family accompaniment. Cost is calculated separately.

Insurance and reducing costs

Sometimes part of the cost can be covered by insurance. We help gather and prepare documents for the insurer — so you do not pay more where there is a lawful way to reduce the expense.

Frequently asked questions

Short answers. Details depend on the country — we will clarify on a call.

Someone died abroad. What should we do?

First contact the local services and register the death. Then call us — we will explain which documents that country needs and take on arranging transport to Ukraine.

Can we transport the body or ashes from abroad to Ukraine ourselves?

Taking the body yourself in a regular car usually does not meet the requirements. Permits, special preparation, and licensed transport are needed. Ashes (an urn) are also transported under special rules. Contact us — we will explain what is required.

How much does transporting the body / ashes from abroad to Ukraine cost?

There is no fixed price: cost depends on the country, route, documents, and preparation. We give an estimate after a consultation, taking individual circumstances into account. If insurance applies — we help with documents for cost reimbursement.

How long does the whole process take?

We agree timelines after a consultation. They depend on documents, permits, and conditions along the route. We explain a realistic sequence — without guesswork promises.

Can the body be transported from abroad to Ukraine under martial law?

Yes, repatriation is possible under the current border-crossing rules. We agree the route and documents according to present requirements — details are confirmed on consultation.

What should we know about repatriation from abroad?

A document package from the departure country and approval for entry into Ukraine are needed, plus proper preparation and a hearse. The set depends on the specific country — we take on the organization and explain every step.
