Documents for transport from Ukraine abroad
Moving a casket or urn across the border needs a document package in Ukraine and in the destination country. The exact set depends on the route — we confirm it on consultation.
- Written application Submitted by the person accompanying the shipment; drawn up in free form.
- Death certificate Or another official document confirming the death, issued by the competent authorities.
- Certificate of no prohibited contents A forensic medical expert’s certificate that the casket or urn contains no prohibited items — with a customs official present.
- Sealing The body must be in a sealed metal casket (or an urn with ashes), sealed by officials.
- Customs inspection Opening a sealed casket or urn at customs is prohibited. Inspection is allowed only in exceptional cases when there is verified information about contraband or prohibited items.
- Import / repatriation permit A permit from the consulate of the country where the shipment is going.
- Medical certificates An embalming certificate and confirmation there are no infectious restrictions for transport — as the route requires.
- Translations and certification Notarized translation of documents into the destination country’s language; often with an apostille.

What makes up the transport cost
The estimate usually includes these required items. Exact amounts are given after a consultation.
- Morgue storage: billed per day — so faster paperwork often reduces this line.
- Body preparation: sanitary care and dressing; embalming or restoration when needed.
- Casket with zinc liner: an international route needs a sealed casket.
- Document arrangement: death certificate, medical papers, permits, consular support, and notarized translations — per the rules of Ukraine and the destination country.
- Transport by specialized hearse along the agreed road route from Ukraine.
- Delivery to the destination abroad and handover for burial afterward.
- Optional: arranging the farewell, ritual items, family accompaniment. Cost is calculated separately.
Insurance and reducing costs
Sometimes part of the cost can be covered by insurance. We help gather and prepare documents for the insurer — so you do not pay more where there is a lawful way to reduce the expense.
