  • Family support at every stage

Documents for transport from Germany

Transport of the body from Germany to Ukraine usually requires these documents. The exact set depends on the circumstances of death — we explain it on consultation.

  • Death certificate (Sterbeurkunde / Todesbescheinigung) Issued by the local German registry office (Standesamt) or by a doctor / hospital.
  • Body transport passport (Leichenpass) An international permit from the competent German authority (health service or local authority) for cross-border transport.
  • Medical certificate Confirms the cause of death and that there are no infectious restrictions for transport.
  • Prosecutor or police permit (when needed) Needed if death occurred under unclear circumstances, after an accident or violence, or if an examination was ordered.
  • Documents of the deceased The Ukrainian citizen’s international passport (or a copy) and other papers as the case requires.
  • Apostille and translation Documents with an apostille and a notarized Ukrainian translation — as the route requires.
  • Transport requirements Under German rules, relatives may not transport the body themselves in a passenger car: a licensed funeral service and a specialized hearse are required.

What makes up the repatriation cost

The estimate usually includes these required items. Exact amounts are given after a consultation.

  • Morgue storage: in many European countries it is billed per day — so faster paperwork often reduces this line.
  • Body preparation: sanitary care and dressing; embalming or restoration when needed.
  • Casket with zinc liner: an international route needs a sealed casket.
  • Document arrangement: death certificate, medical papers, permits, consular support, and notarized translations — per the rules of the countries on the route.
  • Transport by specialized hearse along the agreed road route.
  • Transport within Ukraine: delivery from the border to the burial city.
  • Optional: farewell afterward in Ukraine, ritual items, family accompaniment. Cost is calculated separately.

Insurance and reducing costs

Sometimes part of the cost can be covered by insurance. We help gather and prepare documents for the insurer — so you do not pay more where there is a lawful way to reduce the expense.

Frequently asked questions

Short answers. We will clarify the details of your situation on a call.

Someone died in Germany. What should we do?

Register the death through the local services. Then call us — we will explain the next steps and documents and take on arranging transport to Ukraine.

Can we transport the body or ashes from Germany to Ukraine ourselves?

Transporting the body yourself in a passenger car is not allowed in Germany. A licensed service and a hearse are required. Ashes (an urn) also have rules — we explain them on consultation.

How much does transporting the body / ashes from Germany to Ukraine cost?

Cost depends on the route, documents, and preparation. We give an estimate after a consultation. If insurance applies, we help with the insurer’s document package.

How long does the whole process take?

We agree timelines after a consultation — they depend on documents, permits (including the Leichenpass), and route conditions.

Can the body be transported from Germany to Ukraine under martial law?

Yes, under the current border rules. We agree the route and documents to present requirements — details are confirmed on consultation.

What should we know about repatriation from Germany?

Key papers are the death certificate and Leichenpass; an apostille and translation are often needed. Transport is only by a licensed hearse service. We take on the organization and explain every step.
